On Saturday April 5, 2014, President Ricardo Martinelli accompanied by the Minister of Channel Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Panama Metro, Ing. Roberto Roy, inaugurated the Metro Line 1 of Panama, which opened its doors to the public the next day.

Those who attended the inauguration of the Panama Metro were Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State, heads of institutions, diplomatic corps accredited in Panama, representatives of construction companies in the Metro, deputies and special guests.

The Metro of Panama, first of Central America, will begin operating with: 12 stations and 19 trains manufactured by ALSTOM. This new transportation system will allow travel in 23 minutes between the two end stations, and will transport about 15,000 passengers per hour in both directions.

SOFRATESA participates in the construction of this project as part of the company formed by ALSTOM, THALES, CIM and TSO consortium. SOFRATESA was in charge of the installation of communication systems, security, SCADA and Operations Control Centre as well comforting its leading position in the railway sector in Latin America.
