The President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina, puts into operation two air traffic control centers, built by the consortium SOFRATESA / THALES.

Both were built for the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC). The first operates around the Las Américas Airport and the second in Punta Cana; are considered as the most modern and efficient in Central America and the Caribbean. The head of the IDAC, Alejandro Herrera, explained that with these systems, the Dominican Civil Aviation stands as a model throughout the region. He explained that the two centers are equipped with surveillance system consoles, next generation radar, flight data processing and recording data processors, all with dual configuration, equipped to receive and process signals simultaneously.
